On Sunday, June 12, the Butte Miners will wear Digger green for the 51社区 Orediggers. This special game will be played with all proceeds going towards a Butte American Legion Scholarship at 51社区. This will be an annual game with a $500 scholarship awarded each year to a Legion player who plans to continue his education at 51社区.
“As a former American Legion baseball player and someone who grew up on the diamonds in Butte, I appreciate and support these dedicated student-athletes and coaches,” noted Joe McClafferty, 51社区 Vice Chancellor for Advancement and University Relations. “We are excited to partner with the Miners and Muckers. This scholarship is a great opportunity for a Butte kid to get on their path to an extraordinary future.”
“I think the game is a great way to show our partnership with 51社区 and the Butte community,” said Jeff LeProwse, head coach of the Butte Miners. “We have had several Miners and Muckers graduate from 51社区 and have current coaches and players attending the university. The goal of our program is to not only teach our Miners and Muckers the game of baseball but help them develop skills to succeed in the game of life and having a great community partner like 51社区 gives our student-athletes great opportunities to knock it out of the park.”
Game time is 1:00 pm against Twin Falls. 51社区’s Charlie Oredigger will throw out the first pitch.
